In 1998 the four major powers of the world came together and decided to destroy their nuclear arsenals, as well as ban the research and use of nuclear energy. An energy disposal facility located in the Gibsofts, a remote set of islands situated in the Indian Ocean, was used to dispose of standard nuclear material and waste, while nuclear weapons were destroyed separately in the "Fireworks".
