codename D is an action video game in development for the Xbox 360 console. The game is being directed by Goichi Suda and developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, and will be published by Microsoft Game Studios for a tentative release date of 2011. Debuting at the Tokyo Game Show 2010 with a vague live action trailer, which suggests the game will involve fighting evil forces within an amusement park,[1] little is known about codename D beyond the fact that it will support Kinect for Xbox 360. Suda has however pointed out that typical weapons such as guns and swords will not be employed in combat.
Development
During a keynote speech at the Tokyo Game Show 2010, Suda claimed the roots of codename D could be traced back to a meeting at the Tokyo Game Show 2009, where he met members of Microsoft who offered Grasshopper an opportunity to develop a Xbox 360 title supporting Kinect. Suda pitched an idea which was accepted by the publishers, and "even though the contracting process after that wasn't very smooth," the deal was finalized and Grasshopper began development on codename D. Suda professed that "Until Kinect, we were all making games while being bound to the controller," so the freedom offered by Kinect's lack of remote has allowed Grasshopper to continue developing unique material.
