"Or Four for you."

Dan Smith is a character in killer7, one of the playable protagonists and a persona of Garcian Smith.

Appearance and Personality

Dan wears a simple blue suit, likely a holdover to his days as a police officer. When at rest, he holds his gun over his shoulder in a similar fashion to how many men would carry a small briefcase. Dan is shown to be extremely nervy in even the most pressing of situations. He is also rather cocky, exclaiming "This is too easy!" when he gets a critical hit. He hates Harman Smith, shares an intense rivalry with Coyote Smith, and is disliked by Con Smith.

Story

In his life as a real human, Dan was born in the city of Detroit, Michigan and grew up to be an officer in the Seattle self-defence force, but learned that his partner, Curtis Blackburn, was involved in organ trafficking, and attempted to turn him in; a gunfight ensued, with Blackburn winning and killing Dan. However, he was rescued by the resurrecting powers of Harman Smith, who then recruited him to his killer7 assassin organization, where Dan's skills proved quite useful. He was so proficient that Dan quickly became the group's field captain, commanding its other six members on Harman's direction.

Dan eventually dies when Emir Parkreiner murders the entire killer7, absorbing their personae into himself. The boy confronts Dan on the sixth floor of the Hotel Union, whereupon Dan speaks to him at length in a philosophical tone. After a minute or two of this, Dan concludes his speech, there is a beat, then both draw their weapons on the other; Dan does not fire, possibly thinking that Harman will just revive him if he dies. As a backlash to this failing, he gains the ability to fire more powerful bullets as a member of the "new" killer7.

Throughout the course of Encounter, the assassins begin to learn that Curtis (with his partner Pedro Montana, whom he kills) is still involved in the trafficking of orphans' organs. At the end of Part 2, a security camera compels the killer7 to take on level boss Curtis Blackburn in the form of Dan, because the two have a history together. Curtis comments that Dan has become a badass, while Dan replies that Curtis has only become an old man. After exchanging banter with each claiming they would easily defeat the other, they begin a quickdraw competition in a race to four hits, with each successive draw signaled by the flight of Curtis's pigeon. When Dan wins, Curtis tries to commit suicide, but Dan fires at the organ extraction mechanism behind him, causing it to activate and eviscerate his former comrade. As he leaves the room, the angle shows him pass by rows of freshly harvested orphan girls hanging on meat hooks.

At the end of Alter Ego, it is Dan who breaks into Trevor Pearlharbor's studio and confronts the madman, only to have him summon Handsome Black of his Handsome Men assassin troupe. Black fires at Dan, who dodges, and the shot connects with and kills Pearlharbor; Dan's retaliatory shot kills Black in turn. Handsome Red then appears, challenging the killer7 to an organization-vs.-organization showdown in Broadway, New York. In this skirmish, Dan succeeds in killing his opponent, Handsome Blue.

Dan presumably ceases to exist when his persona is killed by a Black Smile in the gymnasium of Coburn Elementary School.

Powers and abilities

Dan's weapon, a Colt .357, allows him powerful, standard firing power and a quick reload time. His later weapon, the Demon Gun, will upgrade his overall firepower. He is considered by many to be a standard favorite due to his parameters and seeming lack of weaknesses.

Dan's main power is the Collateral Shot, also known as the "Demon Shot" or "Demon Shell," an ability which allows him, at the cost of several vials of Thin Blood, to charge up several bullets into a much more powerful slug. As he gradually upgrades from revolver to revolver, culminating in the Demon Gun, he eventually gains the ability to charge up to three shots at once.
